Home to more than 210 species, many of them endangered. Roam the Australian Outback Trail with kangaroos, visit the gorillas in the Tropical Forest, marvel at the lion and tigers at Kalahari Kingdom and see zebras, ostriches and wildebeests at Serengeti Crossing. Special event: Feb 13–20—School vacation week activities, including making valentines for your favorite zoo animals.

Dedicated to advancing knowledge of the world of water, this outstanding aquatic zoo features a 187,000-gallon Giant Ocean Tank containing a Caribbean coral reef with sharks, sea turtles, moray eels and other aquatic life. Be sure to check out the popular penguin habitat and visit the adjacent Simons 3D IMAX Theater, the first theater of its kind in the Boston area. Special event: July 1—The Aquarium opens the doors to its New Balance Foundation Marine Mammal Center, home to five newly arrived northern fur seals.
